A must-do in Billings is to visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. This was the site of one of the last armed efforts of the Sioux and Cheyenne Indians to preserve their way of life, against the US Army’s 7th Cavalry. At the end of the battle, 263 soldiers, including Lt. Col George A. Custer, were dead. This is an important and still difficult part of American history, with memorials to both sides spread over the site.
The other must-see of Billings is to enter Yellowstone National Park via the Beartooth Highway. This route offers views of the Absaroka and Beartooth Mountains, high alpine plateaus, glacial lakes, forested valleys and waterfalls. The drive should take three to four hours, but why not slow down and take time to enjoy the scenery.

You need to get your timing right if you want to take the Beartooth Highway option to Yellowstone, as the road is only open from late May until September, due to its high elevation. It pays not to leave food out, as that may attract them.
