Australia Cultural trips

One of the great things about motorhoming is the vast range of activities you can partake in, wherever you choose to stop in our gorgeous country. While fantastic natural vistas might come to mind, Australia also has so many interesting cultural opportunities that can be experienced as part of a campervan trip. Here are some to slot into your itinerary, depending on which state you’re exploring.

Northern Territory

If your motorhome adventure takes you to Darwin, it’s a no brainer to drive the extra hour and a half to park up near Kakadu National Park. Of course there's all the spectacular natural beauty to ogle at, but there are also several incredible Aboriginal tours, cultural centres, rock art discoveries and other ways to learn about Australia’s indigenous history.

New South Wales

Sydney is always one of the best spots for a dose of culture - shows, galleries, theatre and sculpture abound, and of course there’s the world famous Opera House, still an incredible feat of architecture sixty years on. The Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Yiribana gallery is also a wonderful place to visit and learn more about Australia’s aboriginal art. And of course, the National Gallery of Australia is home to Australia’s national art collection, and an absolute must visit.

Queensland

If you choose to take a campervan holiday on the Gold Coast to enjoy those beautiful beaches, definitely make sure you spend at least a day in Brisbane. Take one of the famous ferries down the river stopping at the South Bank to take in the museums and galleries. Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Queensland Museum and Sciencentre and Queensland Maritime Museum, are all very close to each other and always have something great on. Take a walk round the man-made riverside beach and gardens afterwards, to complete the perfect day.

Tasmania

While Tasmania is well known for its stunning natural beauty, there are plenty of amazing cultural experiences, too. MONA is Australia’s largest privately-owned gallery and museum and everyone who visits it, raves about the experience. And whether you’re into history or not, Port Arthur is a must see -  a world heritage listed site, it’s the best-preserved convict settlement in Australia.
