Things to Know Before You Reach the Depot

With these tips at your disposal, you’ll be away on holiday in no time.

So you’ve booked your motorhome rental, or you’re seriously considering it at least. What’s next? Just roll up to the rental depot on the day and hope for the best? You could do that, but you’ll be getting your holiday off to a much better start if you do a little bit of preparation before arriving to pick up your motorhome. We’ve got a few tips and tricks that will help your trip to go much more smoothly, and get you out and away from the depot in no time. With this advice under your belt, you’ll be fully prepared to start your holiday in the best way possible.

Leave plenty of time

Make sure you account for potential delays in your travel plans.

No one wants to start their holiday to start with getting stressed out about making it to the depot on time, but the fact is that many people end up stumbling into this situation. Airports can get busy, traffic can be unpredictable and unexpected last minute hassles are always a possibility, so it pays to allow some extra time in your travel plans just to be on the safe side. If you’re changing time zones, make sure to be extra careful when it comes to arriving on time - it’s easy to get mixed up especially after a long flight.

Pre-register

Many major motorhome rental suppliers allow you to pre-register online, which can save you a bunch of time when you turn up to the depot. No one wants to spend a bunch of time filling out paperwork when you could be on the road enjoying your holiday already, so minimise the amount of annoying admin you have to do at the depot by getting a bunch of it all sorted out ahead of time. There will still be some things you have to go through on the day regardless, but the more you can sort out ahead of time the sooner you can set out on your roadtrip.

Get some rest

Getting a good night’s sleep before driving away in your motorhome rental is essential.

Driving tired is one of the most dangerous things you can do on holiday, so it’s just a good idea in general to be well rested before turning up to the depot. But that’s not the only reason you should get a decent night’s sleep before picking up your motorhome. Some motorhome rental suppliers, particularly in the United States, won’t actually allow you to drive your vehicle away if you’ve flown in on the same day. While this might seem like an annoying rule at first glance, being fully rested will not only give you a safer start to your trip but it will also make the whole pickup process easier to deal with.

Pack smart

This tip isn’t directly tied to technical aspects of picking up your motorhome, but it does have a lot to do with how quickly you’ll be able to leave the depot. Cutting down the baggage you take to a minimum is always a good idea - there’s only so much room in a motorhome so bringing a bunch of stuff will likely see you wrestling with it all, trying to find storage space. Aside from just bringing less with you, it’s also a good idea to pack things into soft bags rather than big inflexible suitcases. This will make finding space for everything much easier.

Keep these few points in mind and you’ll be out of the motorhome rental depot and on the road in no time. Start planning for your next incredible adventure on wheels today.
