Discover spring in Australia

Spring is in the air, and a refreshing motorhome road trip in Australia is the perfect way to welcome the warmer months after winter. Taking a holiday during spring is generally cheaper and less crowded, making it a great time to explore. There are so many reasons why Australia should be your next spring holiday destination. Here are a few ideas to get you inspired for your next campervan holiday.

Mountains and Hiking

Alice Springs and the surrounding landscape are perfect for exploring in Spring

The inspiring desert landscape around Uluru and Alice Springs is best explored in spring when the native flora is at its most impressive. Temperatures hover around a comfortable 28 degrees celsius, which makes it bearable to roam this desert environment. In Victoria, you'll find Grampians National Park which has plenty of hiking opportunities, sandstone mountains, wildflowers and wildlife including echidnas and wallabies.

Beaches, Rivers and Lakes

The Gippsland Lakes are the most significant inland lakes system in Australia, a fantastic spring destination which often boasts blue skies and mild sunny days. Go for long walks along Ninety Mile Beach, play a round of golf, take a fishing trip or go boating. If the sun is shining, head to Margaret River, a hotspot for wine enthusiasts and foodies.

Spring Blooms

Floriade Festival in full bloom, Canberra)

Australia has too many beautiful locations to experience during a single spring, so here are a few top places that bloom to life. In September and October, Australia's capital city Canberra transforms into a town carpeted in millions of pretty flowers. Experience the biggest floral festival in the Southern Hemisphere: Floriade. This fest includes a variety of horticulture workshops, music and entertainment. Over on the west coast, recommendations include Perth's Kings Park or head out on a road trip to the Coral Coast or down through the southwest to frolic through carpets of colourful orchids, daisies and desert peas. The Clare Valley is another prime location which has endless rolling hills of bright yellow canola during spring. Take your camera. It's the perfect Instagram backdrop.

National Parks

Winter is over. It's time to get back into nature during spring! Less than three hours drive from Cairns is the Daintree Rainforest, which is a diverse destination stretching 1,200 square kilometres. There is so much to see with a range of tours including guided walks, crocodile spotting and bird watching. Within the rainforest, you'll find the breathtaking Cape Tribulation and nearby beachside town of Port Douglas. About an hour north of Brisbane, the relatively quiet D'Aguilar National Park is a perfect place to stop by on a road trip. The beautiful scenery of the national park makes it the ideal camping site complete with nearby river and increased wildlife and wildflowers during spring.

Events and Festivals

Beautiful Lavender Bar during spring in Sydney

Those in Sydney shouldn't miss a scenic walk from Bondi to Tamarama to see the landscape transformed into a stunning sculpture park for Sculpture by the Sea, starting in October. The Sydney Fringe Festival is another fantastic celebration held throughout the city during September. Looking for a foodie adventure? Drive to Margaret River for the Western Australia Gourmet Escape or check out Swan Valley for a day of wine tasting and matching gastronomic delights.

Adventure and Roadtrips

Loch Ard Gorge is one of the many scenic spots along the Great Ocean Road

Head to Tasmania's Franklin River for an adventurous hiking or rafting trip during spring. The river swells, welcoming rafters from all over who are thirsty for adventure. If you’re picking up your campervan in Melbourne why not take one of Australias most scenic drives? Great Ocean Road stretches 244 kilometres along Victoria's southern coast and spring is the perfect time to drive it!

You'll experience some of the most beautiful spots in Aussie, including the iconic 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and the Gibson Steps in Port Campbell National Park. Melbourne is known as one of the best places to go hot air ballooning in the world, rise above the city on a crisp spring morning before spending the afternoon visiting the city's museums.

Spring in Australia is a magical time for campervan travel, thanks to the country's endless festivals, famous scenic road trips and wildflowers at this time of year. Soak up the late spring sunshine at the beach, explore the country's many hiking trails or sample seasonal delicacies at a food festival. Exploring by motorhome is my favourite way to immerse myself in a different place/culture. My favourite so far? The Southern States of the USA - epic food, amazing people and the most beautiful scenery. I could go on about that trip forever!
