3 Keys to Getting the Best Deal on a Motorhome Rental

There’s a few tricks to finding a great motorhome rental deal - and we’re going to let you in on some of those secrets.

Taking a holiday isn’t cheap these days. Maybe it never was, in spite of our rose-tinted recollections. There’s your accommodation to sort out, then travel expenses, activities, food… If you’re travelling in a motorhome then at least your transport and accommodation are bundled into one, so you’re already ahead there - but who doesn’t want save a few dollars on necessities so they can treat themselves to a few holiday luxuries?

Getting a great deal on a motorhome rental is far from impossible, but there are a few things you might want to know before embarking on your quest for holiday savings. We know a thing or two about renting motorhomes, and we’d like to share a handful of the tips we’ve discovered over the years.

1. Flexibility

Maybe you have a very precise idea of how your trip is going to go, down to the last little detail. If that’s the case, good on you! I’m sure your meticulous planning will pay off with the perfect holiday for you. But if you’ve got a little more wiggle room in your plans, you might be able to save quite a bit of money by taking advantage of a deal that isn’t precisely in line with your original plan. Deals on motorhome rentals come up all the time - some are very generic (40% off if you book in a certain time frame, etc) but others have specific pick up and drop off locations, or tie in with certain activities (e.g. a free day’s ski pass for every day of your hire). These more specific deals are often some of the best out there and if you’re willing to go with the flow a little bit, it’s an easy way to have a cheap holiday - you might even discover incredible places and people you’d never have otherwise encountered!

2. Research

If you don’t know what’s out there, how can you be sure that you’re getting a decent deal? It seems obvious, but far too many people just pick one provider and settle for whatever they have available. It’s a good idea to take a look at what all the available providers are offering, that way you can assess their pros and cons. Plus, you won’t miss out on a great bargain just because you didn’t look. Of course, going through every motorhome rental provider’s website would be a horribly arduous and boring task, but fortunately you don’t have to. Head to a site that allows you to see all the different vehicles and providers available to you at a glance, so comparing and choosing becomes as simple as scrolling.

3. Forward planning

All the research in the world isn’t going to help you if you try to book a motorhome a few days before you plan to go away. When it comes to some things, it might be a good idea to wait for last minute deals to emerge, but that’s not case for motorhome rentals at all. In fact, as time goes on, cheaper options tend to disappear. This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to find good deals on short notice, but it’s a lot more chancy. If you can, look at booking your motorhome rental a few months in advance, especially if you’re going away in peak season - that way you’ll be sure to get the pick of the bunch.
