Hiring a motorhome in London

There are more than 8.5 million people living in Greater London, which makes it home to more than 8 times the number of people living in the UK’s second biggest city, Birmingham. When you want to pick up a campervan or RV in London, Motorhome Republic makes it easy with 11 fleets to choose from. You can hire a London campervan for just a short trip of a few days, or you can drive one away for a holiday around England that lasts for weeks. Regardless of whether you need something suited for the family, a two-person camper or something much more luxurious, you’ll have plenty to choose from.

What to do with your London motorhome hire

One of the most fascinating and visit-worthy places in England is undoubtedly Stonehenge. This circle of standing stones is less than two hours from London, but is thousands of years old, dating back to the Neolithic era.

Hadrian’s Wall, right in the north of England about 5.5 hours from London, is another ancient site, but one you can get much closer to. The wall took 6 years to build and is considered Britain’s greatest Roman monument. You can walk or cycle alongside it to see the forts and museums along the way.

Drive 2.5 hours west of London and you’ll reach the equally historic Roman Baths in Bath. Originally a public bathing house, the site is built on a natural hot springs and is now visited by more than a million people every year. The on-site museum is a fantastic place of learning and discovery with information and artefacts found in the baths.

The University of Cambridge is the second oldest in the English-speaking world, and the fourth oldest surviving university, and it’s only 1.5 hours from London. It’s the school of Stephen Hawking, Charles Darwin, Jane Goodall, and many more people of note.

There are two excellent reasons to add Dover to your motorhome itinerary. The Cliffs of Dover are a magnificent natural sight overlooking the Strait of Dover and out towards France. They are white thanks to their chalk content and reach up to 350 metres high in some places. The second reason is the Dover Castle, which is one of the best in England dating back to the 12th century. It is also the largest castle in the country!

Best times of year to hire a motorhome in London

Spring and summer are generally the best times of year to visit London. The average temperatures for summer highs sit around the low 20s (degrees Celsius) and there are dozens of events on around the city at this time.

Autumn, from September to November, is when the mercury drops from around the high teens to the single digits. Despite winter’s chilly temperatures of no more than 7-8 degrees Celsius by day, the city is exceptionally pretty while lit up with twinkling fairy lights at night.
