There are plenty of opportunities for camping along the rugged coastline, with the whole peninsula offering plenty of scope for beachside family fun. There’s swimming, surfing, and fishing, as well as shipwrecks to explore at Ethel beach - not to mention the opportunity to swim with dolphins, and go whale watching. Barely four hours from Adelaide, this is the perfect family-friendly long weekend getaway!

Discover how South Australia satisfies lovers of outdoors, animals, and adventure!

Adventure lover

Looking for an adventure-packed few days? Kangaroo Island is the perfect place to explore; the drive itself is part of the fun! Make some stops along the way in Fleurieu Peninsula, which offers beautiful coastline and vineyards to explore. Make sure you factor in some extra time as the abundance of wildlife and magnificent scenery along the way could make the journey a little longer than expected (pit stops at Admirals Arch or Cape Borda lighthouse are also recommended). Once you make it to Kangaroo Island you’ll see why the natural wildlife gives the island its name; there’s also Seal Bay Conservation Park, paradise for any animal lovers.

Rest, relaxation and romance

Coorong National Park is a paradise barely 90km south of Adelaide, home to the Ngarrindjeri people. This is the ideal getaway if you’re looking for serenity and relaxation; the area boasts some amazing native flora and fauna. If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, pack your hiking shoes and a good book, and you’ll be all set. With 34 campsites in the National Park and 16 along the beachfront, you can spend your days exploring native bush and the rugged coastline. Bliss.
