When Should You Secure Your Motorhome Rental?

Follow these tips if you don’t want to miss out

A motorhome road trip can leave you with memories for a lifetime, giving you the chance to set your own pace and follow the road wherever it leads but if you don’t book your motorhome rental at the right time, you won’t be going anywhere. It’s not too tricky to figure out when to secure a motorhome but there are a few key things to take into consideration if you want to guarantee the very best vehicle for your upcoming journey.

Get in Quick

This is far and away the most important point to note when timing your motorhome rental booking. The earlier you book a vehicle, the more likely it is that you’ll find and secure the exact kind of model that you’re looking for. Sometimes there are circumstances which make this particularly crucial (we’ll go into that in a little bit more detail below) but the fact of the matter is that if you’re proactive about finding and locking in your rental, you are going to have more options to choose from. This is also key to hunting out a cheap RV rental. As soon as you know which dates you’ll be travelling, it’s time to start hunting for your transport/accommodation all rolled into one.

Sometimes travelling in shoulder seasons like spring or autumn can mean better motorhome availability and less traffic on the roads.

Mind Your Dates

If you thought one time of year is much the same as the other when it comes to motorhome rental availability, think again. Unfortunately, it’s not quite as simple as listing good months and months with dicey availability - it varies significantly from country to country. A good rule of thumb is that milder months tend to book out fast. If you’re heading overseas for your trip, make sure to do some research into peak tourism seasons for your destination. This doesn’t mean you can’t visit somewhere during the high season but if you do, booking your motorhome even further ahead will ensure you don’t miss out.

Events like Coachella suck up a lot of motorhome availability, so if you’re planning to travel at the same time/location as a major event, be sure to book extra early.

Beware of Events

One of the other main factors which influences motorhome availability is major events. If you’ve decided to book a motorhome for a festival, a sports event or some other large gathering, be aware: you won’t be the only one to do so. Securing a campervan rental well ahead of time will not only ensure that all the best vehicles aren’t sold out, it will also enable you to book your camping space in good time, as these are likely to be at a premium too. Even if you’re not planning to attend any events yourself, it’s still smart to figure out if there are any big ones going on where/when you’ll be travelling.

If you pay attention to these simple guidelines, it’ll be easy to pick out a campervan that’s just right for you. Complement a great road trip with the perfect accompaniment: a motorhome, accommodation and transport rolled into one, that suits you down to the ground.
