Luxury Mercedes campervan coming to Australia

If the price tag is a bit offputting, you can always book a motorhome rental for your next Australia road trip.

One of the world’s leading luxury auto manufacturers has just confirmed that one of their popular campervan solutions will be available for sale in Australia by the end of next year. Mercedes’ Marco Polo family of multipurpose vans were recently showcased at the world-renowned Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany but up till now Europeans have been the only ones lucky enough to be able to get their hands one of these models. That’s all about to change however, with the Marco Polo Activity going on sale across Australia sometime in the second half of 2017.

The Activity is the simpler, more streamlined version of the Marco Polo models, with no built in kitchen - however, it does have an auxiliary heater and another battery for a portable fridge to compensate. This isn’t the best choice for an extended holiday on the road, but it does offer an ideal solution for a luxurious yet low-key weekend away. There’s plenty of sleeping room, with the back bench folding down to form a bed and a pop-up roof allowing for an additional bed above.

Australians have long had a love affair with campervans, a cultural phenomenon that’s easy to understand if you’re at all familiar with the diverse natural attractions that this breathtaking country can boast. When it comes to road trip potential, motorhomers could head up to Queensland’s tropical coast to discover rainforests and the Great Barrier reef, strike out across the beautifully barren Red Centre for an exquisitely isolated experience, or uncover the lesser known (but equally amazing) wonders of Australia’s west coast.

While it would be nice to drop $69,990 plus on-road costs on the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo Activity when it comes out in Australia next year, you don’t have to pay a bundle to experience the campervan lifestyle in the Lucky Country. A much more affordable option for those who aren’t looking to purchase is simply to book a motorhome rental for your Australia road trip. No matter which part of the country you’re hoping to visit, it’s easy to find a convenient pick up spot, and once you have a motorhome at your disposal you’ll have the freedom to explore at your own pace and discover hidden gems that would go unappreciated by those without combined accommodation/transport.

Of course, if money’s not an object, just pick up a Marco Polo Activity when it arrives next year, and throw in Black Lugano leather upholstery, seven seats and 18-inch alloy wheels while you’re at it. Your choice.

I can still recall a motorhome vacation my family took when I was five years old and how awesome I thought I was, tucked away in a loft bed above the cab. From revealing unique destinations to providing tips and tricks, it’s my mission to help others build great motorhome memories too.
