New Auckland Motorhome Accommodation | Lions Tour 2017

You’ll have to get in quick to snag these campervan park spots.

The 2017 DHL New Zealand Lions Series is just around the corner, and accommodations all around New Zealand are starting to get seriously booked up. In particular, motorhome travellers who haven’t already secured a place to park up for the night in Auckland will find that their options have become pretty slim. Fortunately, we’ve got the inside word on two new pop-up accommodation locations that have just opened up in Auckland for those following the British and Irish Lions tour 2017 in a campervan.

Alexandra Park

5 km from Eden Park

$100 - 2 people per campervan, per night

Extra guests $15 per person, per night

Set just five kilometres from Eden Park (that’s a ten minute drive if you can beat the traffic) Alexandra Park is perfectly situated for Lions fans who are keen to catch any of the three matches taking place in Auckland. On most days during the tour, Alexandra Park can provide 600 non-powered sites - however, on the 23rd of June and the 7th of July only 200 sites are available. The 23rd is the day before the first New Zealand vs British and Irish Lions match, and the 7th is the day before the final showdown, so if you’re planning to attend either of these games, it would be best to book as soon as possible. All motorhomes parking at Alexandra Park must be self-contained.

Alexandra Park is virtually around the corner from the Eden Park stadium, where many of the biggest Lions 2017 tour matches are taking place.

Ellerslie Racecourse

7.6 km from Eden Park

$100 - 2 people per campervan, per night

Extra guests $15 per person, per night

Ellerslie Racecourse is slightly further from the Eden Park stadium than Alexandra Park, but not enough to make a real difference. It is worth noting however that the pop-up campervan park here is only open on select dates in 2017:

  • 5 June - 8 June

  • 21 June - 25 June

  • 6 July - 10 July

Fortunately these dates all cluster around the three matches taking place in Auckland - the first pitting the Lions against the New Zealand Barbarians on the 3rd of June, then against the New Zealand national team on the 24th of June and 8th of July. To make the most of these limited dates before they’re all snapped up, head here and nab your spot.

Ellerslie Racecourse is centrally located in Auckland, so exploring the city will be easy.

If you’re keen to carry on exploring New Zealand after the British and Irish Lions tour 2017 has wrapped up, Motorhome Republic has you covered with an extensive array of New Zealand itineraries designed specifically with motorhome travellers in mind.

It’s funny how motorhome memories stick with you. I can still recall a motorhome vacation my family took when I was five years old and how awesome I thought I was, tucked away in a loft bed above the cab. From revealing unique destinations to providing tips and tricks, it’s my mission to help others build great motorhome memories too.
