What to do: Attractions of Dubrovnik

Tourism has long been associated with Dubrovnik, thanks to its medieval walls and fascinating heritage. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, there’s a vast array of Gothic and Renaissance churches and monasteries. Entitled ‘The Pearl of the Adriatic’, Dubrovnik is located on the Dalmatian Coast so enjoy stunning sea views wherever you look.

It’s within the Old Town that you will find most of the attractions. Stradun is the limestone main street with main gates Pile and Ploce. Used for ceremonial processions, it’s gorgeously narrow and fascinating, with shops and plenty places to stop and have a coffee or something to eat.

Take an island trip to the beautiful island of Mljet. A sea of green, the forests and vineyards are so enticing you may want to take longer than a day trip. The National Park is also a must-see, although it does cost a bit to take your motorhome on the ferry. Be sure to budget first.

The main cathedral and Synagogue in Dubrovnik are just two examples of stunning architecture in the city, while Lokrum is another stunning island destination.

Croatia is also renowned for its music and cultural celebrations and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in July-August runs for more than six weeks and showcases the best in art, dance, photography, music and more.

Food and drink

While Dubrovnik and Croatia as a whole has something of an expensive reputation, you can find good deals in restaurants if you wish to pack away your camper stove for the evening. Seafood is available everywhere, especially at Proto in the Old Town – one of the most romantic eateries you will ever see.

Near the Church of St Ignatius is Kopun, where fresh ingredients are always on the menu – as is a vast selection of quality wines. 360 Degrees by Jeffrey Vella is on the pricey side, but its stunning setting at St Luke’s Fortress sets it apart from other restaurants. Dip into Tapas at Lucin Kantun, while Buffet Skola is for those on a budget – the ham and cheese are to die for.

Accommodation, motorhome camping Dubrovnik style

There’s only one main option to park your campervan rental in Dubrovnik – Camping Solitudo. Open from April to November, it has great facilities, including a buffet on site, and you can even enjoy a game of tennis. Located on the Babin Kuk peninsula, it’s a 10-minute drive from the city. There are two beaches close by and plenty of walking options if you’re over driving.

However, if you fancy an adventure, travel a few hours to the likes of Kuciste to Campsite Palme, or Nevio Camping in Orebic. You don’t have to stay central to find your little piece of heaven. The vistas are spectacular wherever you go.
